Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a sulfur-containing organic compound.
Its sources are as follows:
Natural sources:
MSM is widely present in plants and animals. For example, it can be found in fruits (apples, grapes), vegetables (spinach, onions), grains (wheat, corn), dairy products, and meats. However, its content is usually low (about 1-100 mg per kilogram of food).
In addition, small amounts of MSM are naturally produced in the human body during metabolic processes, serving as an intermediate product in the metabolism of sulfur-containing amino acids (such as methionine).
Artificial preparation:
Commercially available MSM is mostly obtained through chemical synthesis, typically using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as a raw material and generating it through oxidation reactions. It is used in the production of products such as dietary supplements.
